Building a connection between leaders and policy ideas is simple in principle: don't just describe what a policy would do, show them. In the past that meant set builds, pop-up exhibitions, or interactive installations, far beyond the budget of a not-for-profit.
When generative AI tools emerged, I spotted an opportunity for the Tony Blair Institute. From it came a series that helped build relationships with leaders and governments around the world, by letting them step into the future their decisions could create.

Rather than describing what's possible when leaders make the right calls today, this series showed it.
Using early-release Midjourney and Generative Fill, and later a pre-launch partnership with OpenAI's Sora, we let world leaders walk through the world that becomes possible when governments embrace technology, from AI-enabled healthcare to reimagined public services.
What if the UK used tech to replan its cities?
What if AI identified the case for, and helped plan, the rewilding of Oxford Street? What if the world's first hydrogen-plane airport was built in the UK? Technology can uncover and implement radical solutions to the world's most pressing problems, using UK cities as its canvas.
What if India used cloud to reimagine its economy?
India's economy is at a turning point, with radical growth and a shift beyond fossil fuels. Cloud data accessible across the country would reimagine that economy, unlocking and harmonising regional talents from Maharashtra to Gujarat.
What if UAE used AI to reimagine public services?
The UAE is a unique opportunity to build public services that belong in 2030: showing how AI could manage and maintain world-class transport, community hubs, and vertical farming, owned by the people.

A series that evolves with AI capabilities
As the tools advanced, so did the work. The series grew to span the future of cities, of healthcare, and of policymaking, brought to life with the bleeding edge of what was available: RunwayML for video, ElevenLabs for sound and voiceover, and the pre-launch Sora partnership that let the Institute demonstrate the tool at its flagship conference before public release. It kept TBI visibly at the frontier of how ideas are communicated, and gave world leaders something they could experience rather than simply read.

This series became core outreach for the Institute. It opened the printed agenda at the Future of Britain conference and ran on the main stage screen, in front of 500+ of the world's leading political, economic, technology and cultural figures, among them the UK Prime Minister, the Health Secretary, the UK government's Chief of Staff, Matteo Renzi, Martin Lewis and Jamie Oliver.
From there it carried across the Institute's social channels and a staff content pack used to promote its work, and into the marketing materials, emails, brochures and presentations, shared with prospective national governments and technology partners including Google, OpenAI and Oracle.
It formed part of the outreach that helped onboard 15 new national governments, created during a period when donor relationships grew 200%+ and Institute income doubled.
